Common Problems with Server-Side Sync Configurations

Some common problems with server-side sync involve enabling the mailbox, SLL, and data encryption. Learn more about each of these below.

Enabling the mailbox

One of the most common issues we encounter is that everything may be set up correctly, but a person will forget to click Test and enable mailbox (see the additional notes section). Once Test and enable has been pressed and the test completed, you will see a note of either failure or success. If successful, the mailbox will be enabled and emails can now be sent or received.


As covered previously, you cannot configure a profile without using SSL without modifying two database values in the MSCRM_CONFIG database. Please see this section on the correct procedure so you can avoid this common problem with server-side sync.

Data Encryption

If encryption is not enabled for CRM 2013, any email sent will generate an error. Therefore, whether you are using the email router or server-side sync, data encryption needs to first be enabled.
